The South Grand restaurant district is home to my favorite Thai restaurant in St. Louis, Basil Spice! The authentic flavors they serve up are always so bold and each dish is perfectly prepared. My boyfriend and I wanted to get out of the house after being locked down in isolation after the holidays, so we decided to order from Basil Spice! Currently they are only offering to go ordering. But it's fast and simple! Call your order in and about 20 minutes later your food is bagged and waiting on a table just inside their door. It's a safe way to support this local treasure and to get the food you're craving. I ordered Pad See Ew with chicken. I LOVE their take on this classic Thai dish. The sweet soy sauce is so good. I do always have to ask for it extra spicy since they tend to make everything on the mild side. The texture of their noodles in the Pad See Ew is so satisfying. They're gummy and yummy. My boyfriend tried a new dish neither of us had ever tried, Pad Wuhn-sen with tofu. He liked the combination of veggies. Who doesn't love baby corn?? Basil Spice also gave us free fresh spring rolls. Not sure if they accidentally included them, but we didn't order them. It was a bonus treat. The glass noodles in the rolls was the perfect way to feed my soy sauce addiction. ”

“ I loved coming here when it was open for dine in, I love coming here to order pick up, and I still love going when I am craving a good pad thai. I did not realize that there were so many negative comments and experiences that other people had when I read the reviews. Personally, I have never had a problem because the food was always made to order, they never took too long to bring the check (I also have long dinners with friends), and the owners were accommodating, who also never got my order wrong. The interior is definitely old fashion, but it expresses a lot of their culture. The menu has a great variety and you can ask for different levels of spiciness on pretty much every dish. The service is pretty quick if you let them know what you need. Also, I have ordered for pick up before and they were always quick to service! My favorite dish is the pad see ew with any type of protein. The noodles are flatter and thicker in comparison to the traditional pad thai. I prefer my noodles this way and the sauce is always enough to not make the dish drying. Curry and rice is always a good way to go if you are indecisive. They also have egg rolls that are great appetizers as well. ”

“ Basil Spice is a sold choice for carry out Thai on S.Grand. I have really enjoyed the Gang Masa, Gang Dang and Panang although my only complaint is that I can never get the dishes spicy, despite ordering that way. I recommend carry out or delivery but don't recommend dining in (even pre covid) as the dining area is just not welcoming or cozy. Portions are decent albeit on the smaller side however the quality of food/ingredients is excellent. Definitely recommend as they are solidly in my ordering rotation. ”

“ This is a great place for good Thai food in the city! It's very small, i think i see the same 2 people working every time & they do a great job. They have a great lunch special & you can get it to-go, which i usually do. My usual order is the pork Lo mein, it is fantastic! I branched out and got the #35. Ba-mee (in picture) it is very good but not spicy like the menu said. I loved the fresh herbs & crispy bits in the bowl though. The fried tofu (in picture) & spring rolls are my favorite apps by far! I love the egg rolls with glass noodles, but my friend is not as big a fan as I am. ”
